Low severity Printing Code: Duplex Not Working

Two-sided (duplex) printing not working

Your printer only prints on one side even though you selected two-sided. Usually it's a driver setting, or the model only supports manual duplex.

Symptoms

  • Only one side prints
  • Duplex option greyed out
  • Prints all pages on seperate sheets

Likely causes

  • Two-sided not enabled in the driver/app
  • Model supports manual duplex only
  • Wrong paper size/type for duplex
  • Outdated driver

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Enable it in the print dialog

In the app's print settings, choose Two-Sided / Print on Both Sides (and pick the correct binding edge). Set it as a default in the driver to make it stick.

Check your model supports auto duplex

Some printers are manual-duplex only — they prompt you to flip the stack halfway. Check the spec sheet for "Automatic" duplex.

Use supported paper

Auto duplex needs standard sizes/weights; very heavy or small paper disables it.

Update the driver

Reinstall the full driver if the duplex option is missing or greyed out.
