High severity Hardware Code: 0x97 Epson

Epson error 0x97

Error 0x97 is an internal hardware fault on many Epson WorkForce/EcoTank models — often the main board or printhead. A power reset is worth trying, but it frequently needs service.

Symptoms

  • "A printer error has occurred… 0x97"
  • Printer unresponsive
  • Often appears suddenly

Likely causes

  • Main board / internal component failure
  • Printhead fault
  • Foreign object jamming the mechanism

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Hard reset

Turn the printer off, unplug for 5–10 minutes, hold the power button ~30s while unplugged, then reconnect and power on.

Check for obstructions

Open the unit and remove any jammed paper or packing material that could be blocking the carriage.

Reseat the printhead/cartridges

Make sure cartridges/ink lines are properly seated and there's no transport lock engaged.

Service if it persists

0x97 is commonly a board-level failure; if the reset doesn't help, repair or replacement is usually required.
