Medium severity Hardware Code: False Paper Jam Epson

Epson paper jam message with no jam

Epson keeps reporting a paper jam even though no paper is stuck. This is typically debris on the sensors/rollers or a small torn scrap you can't see.

Symptoms

  • "Paper jam" with empty path
  • Won't clear after removing paper
  • Repeats every job

Likely causes

  • Tiny torn scrap in the path
  • Dust on the paper sensor
  • Debris on feed rollers
  • Foreign object

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Inspect thoroughly with a light

Power off, open the rear/duplex cover, and shine a light through the path for small scraps; remove with tweezers.

Clean the rollers & sensor

Wipe the feed rollers with a lightly damp lint-free cloth and blow dust off the sensor area.

Load paper properly

Use flat, dry paper, don't overfill, and set the edge guides correctly.

Power-cycle

Turn off/on to reset the sensor once the path is clean.
