Low severity Quality Code: Faded Prints

Faded or light printouts

Text and images come out pale or washed-out. On lasers it's usually low toner or an Economy/Toner-Save setting; on inkjets, low ink or partial clogs.

Symptoms

  • Pale/grey text
  • Light patches
  • Color looks washed out

Likely causes

  • Low toner / ink
  • Toner Save / Eco / Draft mode on
  • Partial nozzle clog
  • Wrong paper-type or density setting

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Turn off Eco/Toner-Save/Draft

Disable Economy/Draft mode in the driver and raise the print density if available.

Rock or replace the cartridge

For lasers, remove the toner and gently rock it side to side to redistribute; replace if very low. For inkjets, replace low cartridges.

Run a cleaning (inkjet)

A nozzle check + cleaning often restores density after a partial clog.

Set the correct paper type

Match the driver's media setting to your paper so the right density is applied.
