Medium severity Connectivity Code: Keeps Going Offline

Printer keeps going offline repeatedly

The printer works, then drops offline again every few hours or after sleep. This recurring pattern is nearly always a changing IP address or aggressive power saving.

Symptoms

  • Goes offline after sleep
  • Works after a restart, then drops
  • Intermittent connection

Likely causes

  • DHCP keeps changing the printer's IP
  • Deep sleep dropping Wi-Fi
  • SNMP status checks marking it offline
  • Weak Wi-Fi signal

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Reserve a static IP

In your router, assign a fixed (reserved) IP to the printer's MAC address so the address never changes.

Disable SNMP status on the port

Printer properties › Ports › Configure Port › untick "SNMP Status Enabled". This stops Windows wrongly flagging it offline.

Turn off deep sleep / increase sleep timer

In the printer's settings, extend the sleep delay or disable deep sleep so Wi-Fi stays awake.

Improve signal

Move the printer closer to the router or add a mesh point if the signal is weak.
