Medium severity Printing Code: Not Printing

Printer connected but nothing prints

The printer appears connected and "Ready", you send a job, but no page comes out. The cause is usually a stuck queue, the wrong printer selected, or a paused printer.

Symptoms

  • Job disappears with no output
  • Job stuck at "Printing" or "Spooling"
  • Printer is "Ready" but idle

Likely causes

  • Wrong printer set as default
  • Printer paused or queue jammed
  • Out of paper / wrong tray
  • Driver glitch

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Check you picked the right printer

Confirm the correct printer is selected in the print dialog and set as the Windows/Mac default.

Clear the print queue

Open the queue, cancel all documents, then resend a single test page. If jobs won't clear, restart the Print Spooler service.

Make sure it isn't paused

In the print queue, open the Printer menu and ensure "Pause Printing" is unchecked.

Print a self-test from the printer

If the printer's own test page works, the issue is on the computer/driver side — reinstall the driver.
