Medium severity Quality Code: Blank Pages

Printer prints blank pages

Paper feeds through but comes out blank or nearly blank. On inkjets this is usually clogged nozzles or air in the lines; on lasers it can be tape left on a new toner cartridge.

Symptoms

  • Completely blank output
  • Faint or partial text
  • Color or black missing entirely

Likely causes

  • Clogged/dried inkjet nozzles
  • Empty cartridge or air in ink lines
  • Protective tape/seal left on toner
  • Wrong paper-type setting

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Run a nozzle check & cleaning (inkjet)

Use the printer's nozzle check, then run 1–2 head cleanings. Leave it 15–30 minutes and repeat once if needed. Avoid endless cleanings — they waste ink.

Check ink/toner levels & seals

Confirm cartridges aren't empty. On a new laser toner, make sure you removed the orange/protective strip before installing.

Reseat cartridges

Remove and firmly reinstall each cartridge until it clicks. For ink tanks, confirm the tanks aren't empty and the transport lock is released.

Match the paper type

Set the driver's paper type to match the loaded media so the printer lays down the right amount of ink/toner.
