Low severity Printing Code: Slow Printing

Printer is printing very slowly

Pages take far longer than the rated speed. The biggest factors are quiet mode, high-quality settings, and heavy graphics being processed over a weak connection.

Symptoms

  • Long delay before first page
  • Slow page-to-page output
  • Spooling takes ages

Likely causes

  • Best/High-quality or quiet mode enabled
  • Large/complex documents over Wi-Fi
  • Low printer memory
  • Outdated driver

How to fix it — step by step

Work through these in order; most people are fixed by the first two or three.

Lower the print quality

Use Normal/Standard instead of Best for everyday documents, and turn off Quiet Mode, which slows the print head.

Print as image / reduce DPI

For complex PDFs, try "Print as image" or a lower DPI to ease processing.

Use a wired connection for big jobs

Ethernet or USB moves large jobs faster and more reliably than Wi-Fi.

Update the driver/firmware

A current driver and firmware often improve rendering speed.
