Canon support code 2110 (paper settings mismatch)

Support code 2110 means the paper size or type set for the tray on the printer does not match what the print job asked for. The printer registers the paper loaded in each tray; when the driver sends a job specifying different paper it pauses and asks whether to continue, replace the paper, or cancel. It is a safety check rather than a fault.

What causes it

  • Loading a new paper size or type without updating the printer's paper information
  • Print driver set to Letter while the printer is set to A4, or vice versa
  • Photo paper loaded in the cassette where the printer expects plain paper
  • A job sent from a phone app with a default paper size different from the tray
  • Paper information registration set to a strict mode

How to fix it, in order

Work down the list and stop when the printer recovers. The steps are ordered from most likely and least invasive to last resort.

  1. Read the message on the printer

The screen shows the paper the tray is registered for and what the job requested. This tells you which side to change.

  2. Choose an action on the printer

Select Print with the loaded paper to continue, Replace the paper to load the correct type and update the registration, or Cancel to stop the job.

  3. Update the tray's paper information

Each time you load a tray the printer asks you to confirm the size and type. Set this correctly, or go to Setup, Feed settings, Paper information and set it manually.

  4. Match the driver settings

In the print dialog on the computer or phone, set the paper size and media type to match what is in the tray. Pay attention to Letter versus A4, which is a frequent cause in mixed environments.

  5. Relax the mismatch detection

If the prompt is annoying, go to Setup, Feed settings, Detect paper setting mismatch and turn it off. The printer will then print with whatever is loaded, so make sure sizes are genuinely compatible.

When it is not worth fixing yourself

If you would rather not work through this alone, a printer specialist can take a look with you on a screen-share and tell you honestly whether the machine is worth saving.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop Canon error 2110 appearing every time?

Turn off Detect paper setting mismatch in the printer's Feed settings, or keep the tray registration and the driver settings in sync.

Does 2110 mean the wrong paper is loaded?

Not necessarily. It means the printer was told one thing and the job asked for another. If the paper in the tray suits the job, choose Print with the loaded paper.

Why does printing from my iPhone cause 2110?

AirPrint and the Canon app send a paper size based on the phone's region. Set the tray registration to match, or change the size in the app's print options.
