Canon PRINT is the app Canon has consolidated its mobile printing around. It started life as Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY for home printers, and Canon has since merged the separate Canon PRINT Business app into it, so the same download now handles PIXMA inkjets, SELPHY photo printers, MAXIFY office inkjets and imageCLASS and i-SENSYS lasers. It sets a printer up on Wi-Fi, prints photos and documents from the phone, scans from an all-in-one, and shows ink or toner levels. On business machines it also handles authenticated release printing and address book scanning where the device supports it.

Version and licence: Free. iOS version 3.7.0, about 80.7 MB, requires iOS 17 or later. It was formerly called Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY, and Canon PRINT Business has now been merged into it, so this one app covers both consumer and office models. About 80.7 MB on iOS.

What it does

  • Wireless setup, including handing Wi-Fi credentials to a new printer
  • Print photos, PDFs and web pages from the phone
  • Scan from the glass or feeder straight to the phone or a cloud service
  • Ink and toner level display with a link to genuine supplies
  • Direct connection to the printer when no router is available
  • Copy function that uses the printer's scanner and print engine together
  • Business features carried over from Canon PRINT Business, including secure release on supported MFPs

How to install it

  1. Step 1

Install Canon PRINT from the App Store or Google Play, using the store links on Canon's app page rather than searching blind.

  2. Step 2

Connect your phone to the Wi-Fi network the printer will use, on the 2.4 GHz band if your printer does not support 5 GHz.

  3. Step 3

Open the app and accept the local network permission prompt, which is required for discovery.

  4. Step 4

Tap the printer area at the top and choose Register Printer, then Printer Setup if the printer is new.

  5. Step 5

Follow the prompts, which will ask you to press the Wi-Fi or WPS button on the printer or connect briefly to the printer's own direct network.

  6. Step 6

Once registered, tap Print or Scan and check the printer name shown at the top of the screen matches your machine.

  7. Step 7

Print a photo as a test, and check the paper size in the app matches the tray.

Which printers it supports

PIXMA and PIXMA G Series inkjets, MAXIFY office inkjets, SELPHY compact photo printers, and imageCLASS, i-SENSYS and many imageRUNNER laser models now that the business app has been merged in.

When Canon PRINT will not work

The app says no printer found

iOS and Android both require a local network permission before the app can discover printers. Check Settings, Canon PRINT, Local Network on iOS, or location and nearby-device permissions on Android. Then confirm the phone and printer are on the same band and subnet.

Setup fails when joining the printer to Wi-Fi

Move the printer close to the router and confirm the network is 2.4 GHz if the model does not support 5 GHz. Reset the printer's LAN settings from Setup, Device settings, LAN settings, Reset, then run setup again from the app.

Scanning is missing from the app

Scan only appears for all-in-one models and only when the printer is registered over the network rather than by direct connection. Re-register the printer over Wi-Fi, and on business models check that the device allows scanning from mobile in its remote user interface.

Prints come out the wrong size or cropped

Set the paper size in the app's print settings to match the paper actually loaded, and set the same size on the printer panel. Borderless photo printing enlarges the image slightly by design, so switch to bordered if edges are being lost.

The old Canon PRINT Business app no longer works

It has been merged into Canon PRINT. Install Canon PRINT, register the same device, and remove the old app.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY?

Yes. Canon renamed it to Canon PRINT and later merged the separate business app into it.

Do I still need Canon PRINT Business?

No. The App Store listing states it has been merged with Canon PRINT, so install Canon PRINT instead.

Can I print without a router?

Yes, using the printer's direct connection mode. The app walks you through joining the phone to the printer's own network, which means the phone loses internet access while connected.

Is there a desktop version?

No. On Windows and macOS you install the model's driver from the Canon support site or set the printer up through ij.start.canon.
