Where to buy a printer in Ireland, how to connect it on Eir, Virgin Media or Sky broadband, what repairs cost in euro, and how WEEE recycling works here.
Ireland is a small market that mostly inherits UK product lines and pricing, but the broadband landscape is its own, and the recycling and consumer rules follow EU law rather than UK law. This page covers what is specific to buying, setting up, repairing and disposing of a printer in the Republic of Ireland.
Nearly every home printer sold in 2026 uses a 2.4 GHz-only Wi-Fi radio. Every major Irish broadband router ships with band steering enabled, publishing a single network name across both bands. During setup the printer often cannot find a network it can join, or it joins and then becomes invisible to phones and laptops on 5 GHz.
Eir routers merge both bands under one name by default. Sign in to the router's admin page at its local address using the credentials printed on the underside of the unit, open the wireless settings, and give the 2.4 GHz band a separate network name. Connect the printer, then revert if you prefer a single name. Eir's supplied Wi-Fi extenders can isolate devices, so join the printer to the main router during setup.
Virgin Media Ireland uses the same hub hardware and Intelligent Wi-Fi behaviour as the UK operation. In the Connect app or the hub's settings page, disable Intelligent Wi-Fi or set separate network names for the two bands while you set the printer up. WiFi Pods should be bypassed during setup.
Sky Broadband Hubs merge bands and do not always expose the setting in the app. Sign in to the router page at its local address, open Wireless Settings, and give the 2.4 GHz band a distinct name. Check also that Sky Broadband Buddy has not placed the printer in a restricted profile.
Vodafone's Gigabox and Pure Telecom's supplied routers both default to a single SSID and expose separate band settings in the router web interface. Vodafone's hub also has a device isolation setting that must be off for printer discovery to work.
If the router will not cooperate, create a 2.4 GHz-only hotspot from a phone, join the printer to it, then use the printer's control panel or the manufacturer's app to move it onto the home network. Detailed steps are in printer will not connect to Wi-Fi, and the settings are broadly the same as those covered in our UK router guide, since much of the hardware is shared.
These are the official support routes for Ireland. Use them rather than any number that appears in a sponsored search result.
We are an independent support site and are not affiliated with any manufacturer. Our brand pages, starting with HP, collect the model-specific fixes we see most often.
Independent printer repair is thin on the ground outside Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick, and most surviving workshops focus on business machines and managed print contracts rather than home printers. In-home IT support is usually provided by small local firms rather than a national chain; Currys Ireland offers setup on machines bought in store.
| Job | Typical Irish cost |
|---|---|
| Workshop diagnostic | EUR 50-90 |
| Technician callout (first hour) | EUR 80-160 |
| Roller and pickup assembly replacement | EUR 110-200 |
| Fuser replacement (laser) | EUR 180-400 |
| Printhead replacement (where supported) | EUR 150-330 |
| Waste ink pad service | EUR 90-170 |
For a home printer costing EUR 150 to EUR 300, a repair almost never makes financial sense. Repair is worthwhile on business lasers, workgroup multifunction devices and professional photo printers. Our guide to whether it is worth repairing a printer works through the decision.
On consumer rights, Irish law implements EU rules requiring goods to be in conformity with the contract, with a minimum two-year liability period on the seller and, under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, a right to remedy that runs from the retailer rather than the manufacturer. Keep your receipt: the claim is against the shop that sold you the printer.
Printers are covered by the WEEE Directive as implemented in Ireland, and must not go in household waste.
Before you dispose of any networked printer, clear its stored Wi-Fi credentials, address book and saved scan destinations. Office multifunction devices frequently store scanned document images internally. Our guide to printer security basics covers wiping a device before disposal.
Irish support enquiries fall into the same five categories almost every week, and none of them requires anyone to travel.
Two Irish specifics are worth flagging. Damp is the main environmental issue here rather than heat: paper stored in an unheated room or a garage absorbs moisture, and damp paper is the leading cause of multi-sheet feeds, curling and jams. Keep a working ream in the room where the printer lives and reseal the rest. Second, rural broadband on fixed wireless, satellite or 4G routers is common in Ireland, and those routers frequently use carrier-grade NAT and single-SSID defaults. That does not stop local printing, but it does mean cloud printing services and remote scanning features can behave unpredictably. Wired or direct local printing is the reliable path outside the cities.
Because independent repair coverage in Ireland is patchy outside the cities, remote support is often the fastest route to a working printer. The overwhelming majority of problems we see here are router settings, driver installations or stuck print queues, all of which can be resolved in a single session without anyone travelling. If you want somebody to take it over and set it up properly, you can get help from a printer specialist. To work through it yourself, start with printer offline or browse our error code reference.

Eir routers broadcast one network name across both 2.4 and 5 GHz, and almost all home printers can only use 2.4 GHz. Sign in to the router's admin page using the credentials on the underside of the unit, open the wireless settings, and give the 2.4 GHz band its own name before running the printer setup.
Harvey Norman has the widest in-store range, Currys Ireland matches its UK line-up at euro pricing, and DID and Power City compete on home models. Amazon UK ships to Ireland with duty included and is usually the cheapest route for cartridges and for label printers, which Irish retail barely stocks.
A workshop diagnostic runs EUR 50 to EUR 90 before parts, a technician callout EUR 80 to EUR 160 for the first hour, and a laser fuser replacement EUR 180 to EUR 400. For a home printer costing under EUR 300 it is almost always cheaper to replace than repair.
Irish WEEE rules require retailers to take back an equivalent old appliance free of charge on a one-for-one basis when you buy a new one. WEEE Ireland also runs free public collection days with local authorities, and civic amenity sites accept small electricals at no cost.
Yes, Ireland follows the UK and European naming convention. The Epson EcoTank ET-2920 is the local equivalent of the American ET-2900 and the ET-4900 corresponds to the ET-4903. Paper sizes are A4 rather than letter, so quoted speeds are marginally lower than US figures for the same engine.
Irish law implements EU rules requiring goods to conform to the contract, with a minimum two-year liability period, and the Consumer Rights Act 2022 gives you a right to remedy from the retailer rather than the manufacturer. Keep the receipt, because the claim is against the shop that sold you the printer.
