Canon laser error E805 (fan error)
E805 means one of the machine's cooling fans is not turning or is turning too slowly. The fan's rotation signal did not reach the controller, so the machine stops to prevent overheating of the fixing unit or power supply. Sub-codes (E805-0001 and so on) identify which fan is affected on larger models.
What causes it
- Fan blades blocked by dust, paper or a label
- Fan bearings worn out
- Fan connector loose
- Fan drive circuit fault on the DC controller
How to fix it, in order
Work down the list and stop when the printer recovers. The steps are ordered from most likely and least invasive to last resort.
Restart and listen
Power off for 30 seconds and on again. Listen for each fan spinning up. A silent or rattling fan identifies the fault.
Clear dust and obstructions
Unplug the machine and blow out the fan vents with compressed air. Remove the rear or side cover if needed to reach a fan and pull out any paper fragment caught in it.
Reseat the fan connector
Trace the fan cable to the board and push the connector home.
Replace the fan
Fans are inexpensive and held by a few screws. Order the correct fan for the sub-code and model and fit it with the airflow direction matching the old one.
Clear the error
On imageRUNNER machines E805 may be latched and need clearing from service mode after the repair.
