HP error 57.xx (fan failure)
A 57.xx error means one of the printer's cooling fans has stopped or is turning too slowly for its speed sensor. The second digit identifies the fan: on many models 57.1 is the main cooling fan, 57.2 the cartridge fan, 57.3 or 57.4 the power supply or formatter fan, and 57.7 the duplexer fan. The printer stops to avoid overheating.

Power cycle and listen for the fans
Turn the printer off and on and listen near the vents. Fans normally spin up at power-on. A silent fan or one that rattles identifies the problem quickly.
Identify which fan the code refers to
Check the service manual or HP support page for your model to match the 57.x number to a fan location. This avoids opening the wrong side of the printer.
Clear dust and obstructions
Unplug the printer, find the fan through the vent or by removing the relevant cover, and blow it out with compressed air. Remove any paper fragments or labels that have been sucked into the blades.
Reseat the fan connector
Trace the fan cable to its connector on the board and push it home. Vibration and previous repairs can loosen these small connectors.
Check accessories for 57.7 or higher codes
If the code refers to a duplexer or output accessory fan, remove and refit the accessory and check its connector. Test the printer with the accessory removed.
Replace the fan
Fans are inexpensive parts held by a few screws. Order the correct fan for the code and model, fit it with the airflow arrow in the same direction as the old one, and test.
