Sharpdesk Mobile is Sharp's app for working with its multifunction devices from a phone, tablet or Windows machine. It prints documents and photos, scans from the device to the app, stores scanned files locally and passes them on to email or cloud storage. It can also drive the device panel functions and pass authentication credentials, which the simple Android print plugin cannot do. The Windows Store version means the same workflow is available on a laptop without installing a full driver suite.

Version and licence: Free. iOS version 2.5.8 at about 13.9 MB, with Android and Windows Store versions as well. Unusually for this category, there is a Windows Store build, so it is not phone only. About 13.9 MB on iOS.

What it does

  • Print documents, PDFs and photos to Sharp devices
  • Scan from a Sharp multifunction device into the app
  • Local document storage with rename, preview and share
  • Pass user authentication to devices that require it
  • Send scanned files to email or cloud storage
  • Available on iOS, Android and as a Windows Store app
  • QR code and network discovery for adding devices

How to install it

  1. Step 1

Install Sharpdesk Mobile from the App Store, Google Play or the Microsoft Store.

  2. Step 2

Connect the device to the same network as the Sharp multifunction device.

  3. Step 3

Open the app and allow the local network permission.

  4. Step 4

Add a printer by letting it search, by scanning the panel QR code, or by entering the IP address.

  5. Step 5

Enter your user name and password if the device requires authentication.

  6. Step 6

Print a test document to confirm the connection.

  7. Step 7

Run a scan from the device, selecting the app as the destination, and check the file arrives in the app's storage.

Which printers it supports

Sharp multifunction devices and printers with network support, principally the MX and BP series, and many earlier Sharp models with the network scanner option.

When Sharpdesk Mobile will not work

The app cannot find the device

Grant the local network permission, confirm the phone is on the same subnet, and add the device by IP address if discovery is blocked. The QR code on the panel is often the quickest route.

Scanning to the app does nothing

Sharp devices push scans to the app, so the app must be running and reachable. Check that scan-to-mobile is enabled in the device web page, and allow the app through any firewall on a Windows machine.

Login is rejected at the device

Use exactly the credentials your administrator issued, including any domain. Some Sharp devices also require the user to exist in the device address book before mobile login works.

Printing works but finishing options are missing

The app offers only options the device reports. Confirm the finisher is configured in the device settings, and that SNMP is not blocked between the app and the printer.

Files disappear from the app

Sharpdesk Mobile stores files in its own sandbox, which is cleared if the app is removed. Export important scans to cloud storage or email rather than leaving them only in the app.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a desktop version?

Yes, there is a Windows Store build, which is unusual for this class of app and useful on a laptop.

Do I need the Android print plugin as well?

Only if you want to print from other apps through the Android system print dialog. Sharpdesk Mobile prints files you open inside it.

Can it scan without a computer?

Yes. The scan goes from the device straight to the app, with no computer involved.
