Lexmark error 200.01 - paper jam in the standard path
A sheet has stopped in the main paper path between the tray and the fuser, and the printer has halted to protect itself. Errors beginning 200 refer to jams detected by the sensors near the input and transfer area. There is nearly always a physical sheet or fragment to remove.
What causes it
- A sheet has jammed at the pick or transfer area
- Torn paper fragments left behind from an earlier jam
- Worn pick rollers or separation pad feeding multiple sheets
- Damp, curled or incorrectly loaded paper
- A sensor flag in the paper path is stuck or dirty
How to fix it, in order
Work down the list and stop when the printer recovers. The steps are ordered from most likely and least invasive to last resort.
Switch off and open the front door
Power the printer off before reaching inside, then open the front access door and remove the toner cartridge and imaging unit if the model requires it to reach the paper path. Working with the power off avoids the rollers moving unexpectedly.
Pull the sheet out in the direction of travel
Grasp the jammed sheet with both hands and pull it steadily in the direction it was already moving through the machine. Pulling backwards can tear it and leave fragments that cause repeat jams. Go slowly so the sheet comes out whole.
Remove the tray and check the pick area
Slide the paper tray fully out and look into the opening with a torch for a sheet caught at the pick rollers. Also check the manual feed slot. Small fragments hide here and will trigger the same error the moment you resume.
Check behind the rear door
Open the rear access door and look at the fuser exit area, taking care because the fuser can be hot. Sheets that have travelled most of the way through often stop here even though the code points at the standard path.
Reload the paper correctly
Fan the stack, tap it square, and load it below the maximum fill line with the guides snug against the edges. Paper that is loose in the tray or above the fill line is a persistent cause of repeated pick jams.
Inspect and clean the pick rollers
Look at the rubber pick rollers for shine or flat spots and wipe them with a lightly dampened lint-free cloth, letting them dry before use. Glazed rollers slip and misfeed, and on a printer with high page counts they may need replacing.
Close everything and power on
Refit the imaging unit and cartridge, close all doors firmly, and switch the printer on. The error should clear during the start-up self test. If it returns with no paper present, a sensor flag is likely stuck.
