Bambu Studio is the slicer for Bambu Lab's 3D printers, derived from PrusaSlicer and sharing much of its interface. It handles multi-material printing with the AMS unit, generates supports, previews the sliced result and sends jobs directly to the printer over the network or the cloud. It also drives the printer's camera and monitoring functions. Bambu Lab publishes releases on GitHub as well as its own site, and the GitHub page is the more reliable link.

Version and licence: Free and open source. Version 2.8.2 as of August 2026, at roughly 409 MB on Windows, 275 MB on macOS and 219 MB for the Linux AppImage. We link the GitHub releases page because the bambulab.com download page blocks automated access, but GitHub is Bambu Lab's own official repository. How to install it

  1. Step 1

    Download Bambu Studio for your operating system from the GitHub releases page.

  2. Step 2

    Install it, approving it in System Settings, Privacy and Security on macOS if it is blocked.

  3. Step 3

    Open it and add your printer, either by signing in to a Bambu account for cloud mode or by using LAN-only mode with the access code from the printer screen.

  4. Step 4

    Select the exact printer model and nozzle size so the correct profile loads.

  5. Step 5

    Set up the filament profiles for what is loaded in the AMS or on the spool holder.

  6. Step 6

    Import a model, arrange it and slice, then inspect the preview for support and seam placement.

  7. Step 7

    Send the job to the printer, or export to the SD card if you prefer not to use the network.

  8. Step 8

    Run the flow and pressure advance calibration once for each new filament for the best results.

When Bambu Studio will not work

bambulab.com will not let me download

The Bambu Lab download page blocks some automated and unusual traffic. Use the BambuStudio GitHub releases page instead, which is Bambu Lab's own official repository.

The printer will not connect

Choose between cloud mode, which needs a Bambu account and internet access, and LAN-only mode, which needs the access code shown on the printer screen. Mixing the two causes most connection failures.

Multi-colour prints waste a lot of filament

That is inherent to a single-nozzle AMS system, which purges filament at every colour change. Reduce the number of changes per layer, use a purge object that you keep, and set the flush volumes accurately after calibration.

Prints fail with poor adhesion

Clean the build plate with dish soap and water rather than only alcohol, since oils build up. Choose the correct plate type in the slicer, as the temperature and first-layer settings differ between the cool, engineering and textured plates.

Supports are hard to remove

Use the support interface settings, increase the top Z distance slightly, and if you have an AMS, print the support interface in a different material such as PETG under PLA, which separates cleanly.

Frequently asked questions

Why link GitHub rather than bambulab.com?

The Bambu Lab download page blocks some automated access. The GitHub releases page is Bambu Lab's own official repository and always carries the current build.

Is it the same as OrcaSlicer?

They share ancestry through PrusaSlicer and look similar. OrcaSlicer is a community fork with extra calibration tools and broader printer support.

Do I need a Bambu account?

For cloud features, yes. LAN-only mode works without one, using the access code shown on the printer.
