Xerox error 010-330 - fuser fault
The machine detected a problem with the fuser, the heated assembly that bonds toner to the paper, and stopped to prevent damage. Codes beginning 010 relate to the fusing subsystem. The printer will not resume until the condition clears or the fuser is replaced.
What causes it
- The fuser has reached the end of its service life
- A thermistor or heating lamp in the fuser has failed
- The fuser is not seated correctly after a jam clearance or replacement
- A power supply problem is preventing the fuser reaching temperature
- Paper debris jammed in the fuser is affecting its temperature sensing
How to fix it, in order
Work down the list and stop when the printer recovers. The steps are ordered from most likely and least invasive to last resort.
Power cycle the machine
Switch the printer off at its power switch, unplug it from the wall for two minutes, then reconnect and switch it on. Fuser codes are sometimes transient after a jam or a power interruption, and a full restart clears the latched condition. Note the code exactly before doing this.
Let the machine cool before opening it
The fuser operates at high temperature and stays hot for some time. Wait at least thirty minutes after switching off before opening the rear door or removing the fuser, and follow the warning labels inside the machine.
Reseat the fuser
Open the rear or side access door as your model requires, release the fuser's locking levers, slide it out and refit it firmly until both levers latch. A fuser that is not fully home makes poor electrical contact and reports a fault even though it is serviceable.
Clear any paper in the fuser area
Look for sheets or fragments wrapped around the fuser rollers and remove them gently in the direction of travel. Debris here affects temperature sensing and can produce fuser codes without any component having failed.
Check the fuser's page count
Open the Embedded Web Server by typing the printer's IP address into a browser and look at the supplies or maintenance items page. If the fuser is at or beyond its rated life, replacement is the expected remedy rather than further troubleshooting.
Check the power supply
Plug the machine directly into a wall socket rather than an extension lead, UPS or power strip. Fusers draw a large current when heating, and an inadequate supply can prevent them reaching temperature in the expected time, which the machine reports as a fault.
Record the code and arrange service
If the code returns after a restart with the fuser correctly seated and no debris present, note the full code, the model and the serial number from the machine's label. A failed thermistor or lamp requires a replacement fuser fitted by a technician on most models.
