KODAK STEP Prints is the app for the Kodak STEP range of instant printers and print-and-shoot cameras, which use ZINK zero-ink paper rather than dye-sublimation or ink cartridges. The app pairs over Bluetooth, edits and crops photos, adds frames, stickers and augmented reality effects, and prints. It is made by C and A Marketing under a Kodak brand licence, which is why it is separate from the other Kodak printer apps. The old kodakstep.com website is dead, so use the Kodak Photo Plus site for support.

Version and licence: Free. iOS version 25.1.7 at about 185 MB, published by C and A Marketing, which makes the STEP range under licence. Note that kodakstep.com is a dead domain, so use the Kodak Photo Plus site linked here rather than following older links. About 185 MB on iOS.

What it does

  • Print to Kodak STEP printers and STEP cameras over Bluetooth
  • Crop and edit tools sized to the ZINK print format
  • Frames, stickers, text and filters
  • Collage layouts
  • Augmented reality video linked to a printed photo on supported models
  • Prints on ZINK zero-ink paper, so no cartridges or ribbons
  • Works with the phone camera roll and social accounts

How to install it

  1. Step 1

Load a pack of Kodak ZINK paper, including the blue calibration card that comes with each pack, which the printer reads first.

  2. Step 2

Charge the printer and switch it on.

  3. Step 3

Install KODAK STEP Prints from the App Store or Google Play.

  4. Step 4

Enable Bluetooth and grant the app Bluetooth and photo library permissions.

  5. Step 5

Open the app and pair with the printer from the device list.

  6. Step 6

Choose a photo, crop it to the print format and apply any edits.

  7. Step 7

Print one photo as a test and check the colour, since ZINK output has a distinctive look.

  8. Step 8

If prints look wrong, reload the pack including a fresh blue calibration card.

Which printers it supports

Kodak STEP instant printers and STEP instant print cameras, including the STEP, STEP Touch and STEP Slim models.

When KODAK STEP Prints will not work

kodakstep.com does not load

That domain is dead. Use the Kodak Photo Plus site page for the STEP Prints app, which is the current official location.

Prints come out with odd colours or streaks

ZINK printers calibrate from the blue card that comes in each paper pack. If you skipped it, reload the pack with the card at the bottom of the stack so the printer reads it first.

The printer will not pair

Grant Bluetooth permission and, on Android, nearby-device permission. Remove any stale pairing from the phone Bluetooth settings, then switch the printer off and on so it advertises again.

Photos look darker than on screen

ZINK paper has a limited dynamic range. Brighten and increase contrast before printing, and avoid heavily shadowed images, which lose detail entirely in print.

Paper jams or feeds two sheets

Do not overfill the paper compartment, use only Kodak ZINK paper of the right size, and fan the pack lightly before loading. Humidity makes ZINK sheets stick together.

Frequently asked questions

What is ZINK paper?

Zero-ink paper with dye crystals embedded in the sheet, activated by heat. There is no cartridge or ribbon, but the paper is proprietary and must match the printer.

Why is the app made by C and A Marketing?

Kodak licenses its brand. The STEP range is made under licence, which is why the app is separate from the other Kodak printer apps.

Do I need the blue card?

Yes. It calibrates the printer for each pack, and skipping it causes colour and streaking problems.
