The Hi-Print app drives Polaroid's Hi-Print pocket photo printers, which use dye-sublimation cartridges rather than instant film. It pairs over Bluetooth, crops photos to the print size, adds frames, stickers and text, and prints. Polaroid keeps this separate from its main app, which covers the instant cameras and the Polaroid Lab, so installing the wrong one is a common mistake. The app covers the 2x3, 3x3 and 4x6 Hi-Print models.

Version and licence: Free. iOS version 1.3.28 at about 128 MB. It covers the Hi-Print 2x3, the Hi-Print 3x3 and the Hi-Print 4x6, and is separate from the main Polaroid app used by the cameras and the Lab. About 128 MB on iOS.

What it does

  • Print photos from the phone to a Hi-Print pocket printer
  • Crop and edit tools sized to the print format
  • Frames, stickers and text overlays
  • Collage and multi-photo layouts
  • Bluetooth connection with cartridge level display
  • Supports the Hi-Print 2x3, 3x3 and 4x6
  • Prints on adhesive-backed paper on the sticker cartridges

How to install it

  1. Step 1

Load a Hi-Print cartridge matched to your printer size, since 2x3, 3x3 and 4x6 use different cartridges.

  2. Step 2

Charge the printer and switch it on.

  3. Step 3

Install the Polaroid Hi-Print app from the App Store or Google Play, not the main Polaroid app.

  4. Step 4

Enable Bluetooth and grant the app Bluetooth and photo permissions.

  5. Step 5

Open the app and pair with the printer from the device list.

  6. Step 6

Choose a photo, crop it to the print format shown and apply any edits.

  7. Step 7

Print one photo as a test, keeping the space behind the printer clear because it feeds the sheet back and forth several times.

  8. Step 8

Check the cartridge level in the app before a batch, since the ribbon runs out with the paper.

Which printers it supports

Polaroid Hi-Print 2x3, Hi-Print 3x3 and Hi-Print 4x6 pocket photo printers.

When Polaroid Hi-Print app will not work

I installed the main Polaroid app and my printer is not there

Hi-Print printers use their own separate app. Install the Polaroid Hi-Print app; the main Polaroid app is for the instant cameras and the Lab.

The printer will not pair

Grant Bluetooth permission and, on Android, nearby-device permission. Remove any old pairing from the phone Bluetooth settings, then switch the printer off and on.

Prints stop halfway or jam

Dye-sublimation printers pass the sheet back and forth several times per print, so leave clear space behind the printer. Also confirm the cartridge matches the printer size exactly.

Colours look flat

Turn off app filters and print once with no correction as a reference. The protective overcoat layer applied in the final pass slightly changes the finish, and the result never matches a screen exactly.

The printer stops before the paper is used up

Paper and ribbon are matched in one cartridge, so both run out together. If prints stop early, check the cartridge is seated correctly rather than assuming a fault.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there a separate Hi-Print app?

Polaroid keeps its camera and film products in the main app and the Hi-Print pocket printers in this one. They do not overlap.

Does Hi-Print use instant film?

No. It uses dye-sublimation cartridges, which is why the prints look different from Polaroid film prints.

Can I print stickers?

Yes, if you buy the adhesive-backed cartridges for your printer size.
