The KX driver is Kyocera's principal Windows print driver and the one most Kyocera sites standardise on. It exposes the full feature set of Kyocera devices, including job accounting, private printing with a PIN, booklet and finishing options, and driver profiles that can be exported to other machines. Kyocera now publishes it as the KX Universal Printer Driver, covering many models from one package, with the older KX Classic 7.x line kept only as legacy. It is downloaded per model through the Download Center, and the package is large.

How to install it
Step 1
Open the Kyocera Download Center and enter your model, for example ECOSYS MA4000 or TASKalfa 3554ci.
Step 2
Choose Windows and your version, then download the KX Universal Printer Driver package.
Step 3
Extract the download to a local folder; the package is large so allow time and disk space.
Step 4
Run the setup application as an administrator and accept the licence.
Step 5
Choose Express install to let it find the device, or Custom install to enter the IP address and pick the driver manually.
Step 6
Let it query the printer so trays and finishers are detected; otherwise set them in Printer Properties, Device Settings.
Step 7
Set defaults in Printing Preferences, particularly duplex, black and white and any job accounting code.
Step 8
Print a test page and confirm any accounting code is accepted by the device.
Which printers it supports
Kyocera ECOSYS and TASKalfa printers and multifunction devices across the current ranges and many earlier models. GDI-only models such as the FS-1020MFP use the Kyocera Client Tool instead.
When Kyocera KX Universal Printer Driver will not work
Job accounting is probably enabled on the printer. Open Printing Preferences, find the job accounting section, enter the account code your administrator issued and save it as the default.
The driver could not query the device. Open Printer Properties, Device Settings and tick the finisher, extra trays and duplex unit that are actually fitted, or allow SNMP so detection works.
Extract it once and deploy only the driver files you need through your print server or deployment tool. Kyocera also offers smaller driver options for basic printing where the full feature set is not required.
Private printing needs a hard disk or SSD fitted in some models, and the job must be sent with a PIN. Check the device has the storage option, then release the job from the panel under Job Box or Private Print.
Older devices sit on the legacy KX Classic 7.x line. Use what the Download Center offers for that model, and be aware that Classic drivers may not have current Windows builds.
