Lexmark ScanBack Utility Download and Setup Guide
Creates scan-to-computer profiles without touching the Embedded Web Server

ScanBack solves a specific problem on Lexmark multifunction devices: scan-to-network-folder profiles normally have to be created in the printer's Embedded Web Server, which most users cannot reach. ScanBack runs on the user's own Windows machine, sets up a temporary scan profile pointing back at that computer, and shows the profile number to select at the printer panel. You walk to the device, choose the profile, scan, and the file lands on your computer. It is a small utility but it removes a genuine administrative bottleneck.
Version and licence: Free, Windows only, version 5.5.0.0 at about 12 MB. Its purpose is to let an ordinary user create a scan-to-computer profile without needing access to the printer's Embedded Web Server, which is usually restricted to administrators. About 12 MB.

Walk to the printer, choose Held Jobs or Profiles on the panel, select the profile and press start.
Step 8
The scan is sent back to your computer and ScanBack saves it to the folder you chose.
Which printers it supports
Lexmark multifunction devices with network scanning and profile support, including the current MX, CX and MB families and many earlier X series models.
When Lexmark ScanBack Utility will not work
ScanBack must still be running and waiting when you walk to the printer, because the profile is temporary. Check the printer IP address is right, and look under Profiles or Held Jobs rather than the normal scan menu.
The printer sends the file back to your computer over the network, so a firewall on the computer will block it. Allow ScanBack through Windows Defender Firewall on both private and public profiles and try again.
Confirm the IP address from the printer panel, since a DHCP lease change will break a saved address. Also confirm the device actually supports scan profiles, as basic printers do not.
Colour at 600 dpi produces huge files. Use 300 dpi and greyscale or black and white for text documents, and choose PDF rather than TIFF for multi-page scans.
ScanBack is Windows only. On macOS, ask an administrator to configure a scan-to-network-folder destination in the Embedded Web Server, or scan to email instead.

Frequently asked questions
Why would I use ScanBack instead of the web interface?
Because the Embedded Web Server is usually locked to administrators. ScanBack lets an ordinary user create a scan destination on their own computer.
Do the profiles persist?
They are intended as temporary profiles created when you need them, so ScanBack normally needs to be running when you scan.
Is there a Mac version?
No. It is a Windows-only utility.
