Kyocera error C6000 - fuser heater failure
The fuser did not reach its target temperature within the expected time, so the machine stopped and reported a service call. Codes in the C6000 range concern the fusing unit's heating and temperature sensing. Because fusing involves mains voltage and high heat, the machine deliberately refuses to continue.
What causes it
- A broken heater lamp or heating element in the fuser
- A failed thermistor giving incorrect temperature readings
- A tripped thermal cut-out inside the fuser
- Insufficient mains supply, often from an extension lead or UPS
- The fuser has reached the end of its service life
How to fix it, in order
Work down the list and stop when the printer recovers. The steps are ordered from most likely and least invasive to last resort.
Power cycle from a wall socket
Switch the machine off, unplug it from any extension lead or power strip, plug it directly into a wall outlet, wait two minutes and switch it on. Fusers draw a heavy current while warming, and an inadequate supply is a genuine and easily eliminated cause of failing to reach temperature.
Let the machine cool if it has been running
Leave it switched off for at least thirty minutes before trying again or opening anything. Some fuser faults appear only when the unit is hot, and a cold start gives a clearer picture of whether the heater works at all.
Check the room temperature
A machine in a very cold room takes longer to reach fusing temperature and may exceed the expected warm-up window. Bring the machine to normal room temperature and let it stand powered on for an hour before printing.
Reseat the fuser if it is user-accessible
On models where the fuser is a customer-replaceable unit, wait for it to cool, open the rear or side door, release its levers, slide it out and refit it firmly until it latches. Poor contact after a jam clearance can produce heater faults on a working fuser.
Check the fuser's page count
On the panel, look under System Menu or the maintenance counters for the fuser life. If it is at or past its rated interval, replacement is the expected outcome and further troubleshooting will not help.
Record the code and call service
Note the full code, the model and the serial number from the machine's label. A failed heater lamp or thermistor requires a replacement fuser fitted by a technician, and the code tells them which part to bring.
