Is the Dell 1130 Laser Printer right for you?

The Dell 1130 is a rebadged Samsung ML-2525, a plain USB mono laser that Dell bundled with countless Inspiron and Vostro PCs around 2010. It is reliable and its toner is chipped, so refills need a new chip. Dell exited the printer business around 2020, but the driver download remains on dell.com/support, and because the engine is Samsung's, the Samsung ML-2525 driver from HP also works as a fallback.

Setting up the Dell 1130 Laser Printer

Search dell.com/support for '1130' and download the Windows driver; it installs on Windows 11 when run as administrator. If Dell's installer fails, the HP-hosted Samsung ML-2520 Series driver drives the same engine. The 1130 is USB-only, so share it from a PC or use a USB print server to put it on the network.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Dell's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
