Is the Sharp MX-B455W right for you?

A 45 ppm desktop mono MFP with a fast single-pass duplex feeder, the MX-B455W is one of Sharp's best-value machines for small offices that scan a lot. Wireless is standard and the 7-inch touchscreen supports scan-to-email, folder and cloud out of the box. It is a printer-first device though, so if you need heavy finishing or A3 you should be looking at the BP range instead.

Setting up the Sharp MX-B455W

Run the panel wizard to join Wi-Fi or plug in Ethernet, then set the administrator password and SMTP details in the web interface. On Windows, install the Sharp PCL6 driver rather than the generic Microsoft driver so duplex, tray selection and secure print are available. If double-sided printing is missing, confirm the duplex option is enabled in the driver Configuration tab and that the paper type is not set to a heavy stock the duplexer refuses.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Sharp's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
