Is the Sharp MX-M3071 right for you?

The mono member of the MX-71 family, the MX-M3071 pairs a 30 ppm black-only engine with full colour scanning, and it is one of the most common used A3 machines on the secondary market. Toner costs are low and the engine is durable, so buying one off lease is often a sensible move for a small firm. Expect to replace the drum and possibly the fuser once the meter passes a few hundred thousand pages.

Setting up the Sharp MX-M3071

Add the printer by IP using Sharp's current PCL6 driver; the older MX-M driver installers may not pass Windows 11 signature checks. On the panel, set the default copy resolution and default scan format so staff do not send oversized 600 dpi colour scans by email. Cleaning the ADF scan strip and rollers every few thousand pages keeps lines and double-feeds away on high-mileage units.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Sharp's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
