A compact 40 ppm A4 mono MFP for small teams, the e-STUDIO409S is the machine Toshiba dealers place where a full copier would be overkill. It keeps the e-BRIDGE driver compatibility that makes fleet management simple, but the 50-sheet reversing feeder and 4.3-inch panel are noticeably simpler than the A3 range. Toner and drum are separate consumables, so factor the drum into running-cost calculations.

Setting up the Toshiba e-STUDIO409S

Connect Ethernet or fit the optional wireless module, then add the printer with the Universal Printer Driver so it matches other e-STUDIO queues. Scan-to-email needs SMTP details entered in the machine's web page; use an authenticated relay on port 587 rather than the default port 25. If prints are fine but copies are streaked, clean the narrow scanner strip beside the main glass, which is where ADF scanning happens.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Toshiba's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
