Is the Canon PIXMA TR4720 right for you?

The TR4720 is the current-generation version of the budget fax all-in-one, nearly identical to the TR4520 on the outside but switched to PG-260 / CL-261 cartridges. It is still the least expensive way to get a Canon with an ADF and fax, and it gained Chromebook support and a newer Wi-Fi chipset. Expect slow color printing and a color cartridge that empties as a unit, which is the trade-off for the low sticker price.

Best for: Home offices that need occasional fax and ADF scanning for under 100 dollars

Setting up the Canon PIXMA TR4720

Use Canon PRINT's Easy wireless connect on a 2.4 GHz network, then finish with the ij.start.canon installer; the printer has no Bluetooth. The rear tray is the only input, so load no more than 100 sheets and keep the output tray extended. For faxing over VoIP, lower the transmission speed in the fax settings to reduce failed sends.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Canon's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
