Home offices needing occasional colour laser printing in a small footprint

The CS310dn was a budget networked colour laser from 2013 that sold in large numbers to small businesses and is still common second-hand. It prints respectable colour at 25 ppm but its starter cartridges are tiny, so the 4,000-page high-yield black is the sensible choice. Most support calls on these units now relate to imaging kit end-of-life and Windows driver installation rather than mechanical failure.

Add the printer by IP on Windows using the Lexmark Universal Print Driver, since the original model-specific driver is no longer updated. The IP is shown on the network setup page printed from the menu. Reset colour alignment from the Quality menu after changing an imaging kit.
The Lexmark CS310dn uses the following consumables. Match the number exactly when you buy: the same printer family often uses several different cartridge numbers by region.
High-yield (XL) versions almost always cost less per page if you print regularly. On third-party ink and toner, read our honest assessment first, and note that some manufacturers push firmware that rejects non-original chips.
