DYMO Label v8 Download and Setup Guide
Legacy DYMO label software, not compatible with the LabelWriter 550

DYMO Label v8 was DYMO's label software for many years and is still available for older printers and older operating systems. It designs labels, imports address data, generates barcodes and integrates with Microsoft Word and Outlook through add-ins that some offices still depend on. It has two hard limits worth knowing: the macOS build only covers macOS 10.14 through 13, and it does not support the LabelWriter 550 series in any version. For anything current, DYMO Connect is the software to use.
Version and licence: Legacy. Windows version 8.7.4 and macOS version 8.7.5. The macOS build supports only macOS 10.14 through 13, and importantly it does not support the LabelWriter 550 series at all. New installs should use DYMO Connect unless you specifically need version 8 for an older workflow.

What it does
- Label design for older LabelWriter and LabelManager models
- Address book with import from contacts and spreadsheets
- Barcode generation
- Microsoft Word and Outlook add-ins for printing addresses
- Templates for address, shipping and file folder labels
- Works on older macOS versions that DYMO Connect does not support
How to install it
Step 1
Check your printer first: if it is a LabelWriter 550 or 5XL, this software will not work and you need DYMO Connect.
Step 2
Open the DYMO support page and download DYMO Label v8 for Windows or macOS.
Step 3
Confirm your operating system is supported, remembering that the macOS build stops at macOS 13.
Step 4
Run the installer as an administrator.
Step 5
Connect the label printer by USB and let the driver install.
Step 6
Open the software and confirm the loaded label size is detected.
Step 7
If you want the Word or Outlook add-ins, enable them during installation or from the add-ins menu afterwards.
Step 8
Print a test label before relying on it for a batch.
Which printers it supports
Older DYMO LabelWriter models including the 400 and 450 series, and LabelManager tape printers with computer connectivity. The LabelWriter 550 series is not supported.
When DYMO Label v8 will not work
DYMO Label v8 does not support the 550 series at all, in any version. Install DYMO Connect, which is the current software and the only one that works with those printers.
The macOS build supports only macOS 10.14 through 13. On macOS 14 or later, use DYMO Connect instead.
Office updates often disable old add-ins. Re-enable it under the Office add-ins settings, and if it is blocked entirely, print from DYMO Label itself using an address imported from a spreadsheet.
Select the exact label part number in the software so the dimensions match the roll, and check the roll is seated properly against the guides.
These are direct thermal printers. Faint output usually means old labels, non-thermal stock or a dirty print head. Clean the head when cold and use fresh genuine rolls.

For older macOS versions, older printers, or if your office depends on the Word and Outlook add-ins.
