Legacy utility that mapped the printer's scan button to an action on the computer

Event Manager was the piece that made the Scan button on an Epson all-in-one do something useful. It listened for the button press and launched a chosen action on the computer, such as scanning to PDF, scanning to email or opening a particular program. On current printers that job is handled by ScanSmart and the Epson Scan 2 layer, and Event Manager is no longer offered. It is worth knowing about only because older models still list it and because scan-to-computer will not work on those machines without it.
Version and licence: Legacy. Event Manager is only published on older model support pages and has been superseded in practice by ScanSmart together with Epson Scan 2 on models from about 2020 onwards. Do not install it on a recent printer.

What it does
- Maps the printer's panel scan buttons to actions on the computer
- Defines scan-to-PDF, scan-to-email and scan-to-application jobs
- Sets resolution, colour mode and destination folder per button
- Allows several computers to register with one printer on some models
- Runs as a background service so the button works without opening anything first
How to install it
Step 1
Check first whether your printer is recent enough to use ScanSmart, in which case skip Event Manager entirely.
Step 2
For an older model, open its support page on the Epson site and choose your operating system.
Step 3
Download Epson Event Manager from the utilities list if it appears there.
Step 4
Install Epson Scan or Epson Scan 2 for the same model first, because Event Manager depends on it.
Step 5
Run the Event Manager installer and restart the computer.
Step 6
Open Event Manager, select your printer, and assign an action to each button under Button Settings.
Step 7
Press the Scan button on the printer to confirm the mapped action runs.
Which printers it supports
Older Epson all-in-one printers and scanners that shipped before ScanSmart, including earlier Expression, WorkForce and Stylus models.
When Epson Event Manager will not work
Your printer is new enough to use ScanSmart. Install the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package instead, which contains ScanSmart and handles panel scans through Epson Scan 2.
Event Manager must be running in the background and the computer must be registered with the printer. Open Event Manager, reselect the printer, and check that its background process is allowed to start with Windows or macOS login.
On network models the computer registers itself through Epson Scan 2 Utility. Open that utility, add the scanner by IP address, then reopen Event Manager so the registration is refreshed.
Event Manager is old software and frequently breaks on new macOS releases, and Epson does not update it. Scan from ScanSmart, Image Capture or Preview instead, or start scans from the computer rather than the printer panel.
Only one destination can be active per button on most models. Remove the registration from the machine you do not want, or assign different buttons to different computers where the model allows it.
