Epson ScanSmart Download and Setup Guide
Desktop scanning software for Epson scanners and all-in-ones

ScanSmart is Epson's current desktop scanning application, replacing the older Epson Scan front end and Document Capture for most home and small-office users. It previews a scan, lets you rotate, crop and reorder pages, applies searchable OCR to PDFs and then saves, emails or uploads the result. Epson does not publish it as a separate download, which catches people out: you install it from the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package listed on your model's support page. A paid Accounting Edition adds receipt data extraction and export to accounting packages.
Version and licence: There is no standalone installer. ScanSmart is installed from the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package on your scanner's or printer's own support page. The ScanSmart Accounting Edition, which exports to accounting software, is a separate paid upgrade.

How to install it
Step 1
Go to the Epson support page for your exact scanner or printer model.
Step 2
Open the Drivers and Downloads section and choose your operating system.
Step 3
Download the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package rather than the printer driver alone.
Step 4
Run the installer and accept the licence, leaving ScanSmart ticked in the component list.
Step 5
Connect the scanner by USB or confirm it is on the network when the installer asks.
Step 6
Open Epson ScanSmart from the Start menu or Applications folder.
Step 7
Set the default save folder and file type under Settings, then run a test scan from the glass and one from the feeder.
Which printers it supports
Recent Epson document scanners in the DS and RapidReceipt ranges, and Epson all-in-one printers including EcoTank, Expression and WorkForce models with a scanner. Older models use Epson Scan or Epson Scan 2 instead.
When Epson ScanSmart will not work
There is no standalone installer. Open your model's support page, choose your operating system, and download the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package, which contains it.
Check the scanner appears in the operating system first, then open Epson Scan 2 Utility and confirm the device is selected there, since ScanSmart uses that layer. For a network scanner, add it by IP address in the Epson Scan 2 Utility.
Scan at 300 dpi rather than 200, use black and white or greyscale for plain text, and set the correct OCR language. Skewed or low-contrast originals will always OCR badly, so use auto-deskew and clean the glass.
Cloud destinations open a browser window for authentication, which corporate policies and pop-up blockers often break. Allow the pop-up, sign in fully, and re-add the destination in ScanSmart settings.
Fan the stack, do not overfill the tray and set the paper guides snugly. Enable double feed detection in the scan settings if your model supports it, and replace the separation pad or roller if the scanner has a high page count.

Frequently asked questions
Why is there no direct download link?
Epson distributes ScanSmart only inside the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package on each model's support page, so the download depends on your model.
What is the Accounting Edition?
A paid upgrade that adds receipt field extraction and export into accounting software. The standard edition is free with the hardware.
Does it replace Epson Scan 2?
It replaces it as the user-facing app, but Epson Scan 2 still provides the underlying driver layer and its utility is where network scanners are registered.
