Epson Software Updater Download and Setup Guide
Keeps Epson drivers, utilities and firmware current on Windows and macOS

Epson Software Updater is a small background utility that checks Epson's servers for newer versions of the drivers, scanning software and utilities you already have installed, and for firmware updates for the printer itself. It also offers optional extras you did not install, such as Print Layout or manuals. It is the easiest way to keep an Epson printer current, and firmware updates it delivers often fix connectivity faults and print quality quirks. It runs on a schedule you control, so it can be set to check monthly rather than constantly.
Version and licence: Free. Windows version 469 and macOS version 271. It updates Epson software and, on many models, printer firmware, so run it before assuming a fault is a hardware problem.

Which printers it supports
Most Epson consumer and small-office printers and scanners, including Expression, EcoTank, WorkForce, WorkForce Pro, SureColor photo models and DS series scanners.
When Epson Software Updater will not work
It only lists products whose software is already installed and which are reachable. Connect the printer, install the model driver from the Epson support page, then reopen the updater.
Never power the printer off during a firmware update. If it fails, connect the printer by USB rather than Wi-Fi and retry, since a dropped wireless link is the usual cause. If the printer is left unusable, Epson support has a recovery procedure for that model.
Corporate proxies and strict firewalls block the update endpoints. Try on a home network, or ask for epson.com and ftp.epson.com to be allowed. A VPN can also break it.
This usually means the install did not complete with sufficient rights. Right-click and run the updater as administrator on Windows, or authenticate when macOS prompts, then install again.
Open the updater, find the automatic update settings and set the check interval to monthly or never. You can still open it manually when you want to check.

Frequently asked questions
Does it update firmware as well as software?
Yes, on most models. Firmware updates are worth applying because they often fix Wi-Fi and print quality problems.
Is it required?
No, but without it you have to check each model support page manually for new drivers and firmware.
Can it downgrade firmware?
No. Epson does not offer firmware downgrades through the updater, so consider whether an update changes behaviour you rely on before applying it.
