Easy Assist is the phone app Xerox uses for out-of-box printer setup and day-to-day device management. It walks you through unpacking and configuring a new machine, connects it to the network, registers the device, shows supplies and alerts, and gives access to troubleshooting videos for that specific model. It is aimed at small offices without dedicated IT staff. Since version 1.6.2 it also supports Lexmark printers, so a mixed site can use one app for both brands.
Version and licence: Free. iOS version 1.7.4 at about 49.3 MB. Since version 1.6.2 it also supports Lexmark printers, following the Xerox acquisition of Lexmark. About 49.3 MB on iOS.

Step 1

Step 2
Switch the printer on and leave it at its initial setup screen if it is new.
Step 3
Connect the phone to the network the printer will use.
Step 4
Open the app, allow the local network and camera permissions, and choose to add a printer.
Step 5
Scan the QR code on the printer panel if the model shows one, or select the device from the list.
Step 6
Follow the setup steps, entering the Wi-Fi password when asked so the app can pass it to the printer.
Step 7
Complete registration if you want warranty tracking, then check that supplies levels display, which confirms the connection.
Which printers it supports
Current Xerox office printers and multifunction devices, principally VersaLink and AltaLink, and Lexmark printers from version 1.6.2 onwards.
When Xerox Easy Assist will not work
Grant the local network permission on the phone, turn off any VPN, and make sure the phone is on the same subnet. If the printer is new and not yet on the network, use the QR code on its panel instead of network discovery.
Grant camera permission to the app, clean the panel screen and reduce glare. If the code still fails, choose the manual option and enter the printer's IP address or serial number.
Some Xerox office models need an optional wireless adapter fitted before they can join Wi-Fi at all. Check the hardware, and if wireless is available, move the printer nearer the access point and confirm the network is not hidden or enterprise-authenticated.
Lexmark support arrived in version 1.6.2, so update the app first. Older versions will not see Lexmark devices at all.
Status uses SNMP or the device web services, which administrators sometimes disable. Enable them in the Embedded Web Server, or accept that setup still works without live status.
