The Global Print Driver is Xerox's universal Windows driver, letting one driver serve a whole fleet of Xerox devices instead of a driver per model. It queries each printer for its capabilities so the print dialog reflects the trays, duplexer and finisher actually fitted. Xerox publishes it in a PCL6 edition for general office use and a PostScript edition for graphics workflows. The current V3 release is x64 only, which matters if you still run 32-bit Windows anywhere, and it is aimed squarely at administrators managing print servers.
Version and licence: Free. The V3 Global Print Driver is at 5.1076.4.0, dated May 2026, in PCL6 and PostScript editions of roughly 38 MB each. Both are x64 only, so 32-bit Windows is not supported. About 38 MB per edition.

How to install it
Step 1
Choose PCL6 for general office printing or PostScript if your applications require it.
Step 2
Download the chosen edition from the Xerox Global Print Driver downloads page, confirming your Windows version is 64-bit.
Step 3
Extract the package to a local folder and run the installer as an administrator.
Step 4
Enter the printer's IP address or hostname, or let the installer scan the local subnet.
Step 5
Let the driver query the device so trays and finishing options are detected automatically.
Step 6
If detection fails, open Printer Properties, Configuration and set the installed options by hand.
Step 7
Set defaults in Printing Preferences, particularly two-sided and black and white, then print a test page.
Which printers it supports
Xerox printers and multifunction devices across the VersaLink, AltaLink, WorkCentre, Phaser and ColorQube families, plus many older networked Xerox models.
When Xerox Global Print Driver will not work
The current V3 driver is x64 only. Confirm the machine is running 64-bit Windows; 32-bit systems need an older driver release from the model's own page.
The driver could not query the device. Allow SNMP traffic to the printer, or set the installed options manually in Printer Properties, Configuration to match the fitted hardware.
Network discovery rarely crosses subnets. Enter the printer's IP address directly to create a standard TCP/IP port, which is also more stable long term.
Secure print must be enabled on the device as well as selected in the driver. Check the Embedded Web Server settings, and confirm you are entering the same passcode at the panel that you set in the print dialog.
A universal driver exposes a common feature set. For a feature unique to one device, install that model's own driver on the machines that need it and keep the global driver for everything else.
