The MFC-J1360DW, marketed as the Work Smart 1360, is one of the inkjet all-in-ones Brother USA introduced in September 2025 at $109.99. It likely replaces the MFC-J1170DW and adds features rarely seen at this price: a 20-page automatic document feeder, automatic two-sided printing and a 1.8-inch color display. Brother also sells the INKvestment 1365 (MFC-J1365DW), the same printer with more ink in the box, so compare the two on total price rather than features. It quickly became one of Amazon US's best-selling printers. It suits students and home users who scan multi-page forms now and then but print too little to justify a tank printer.

Setting up the Brother MFC-J1360DW

Install the starter cartridges, load paper and let the printer finish its initial ink charge before connecting. Brother Mobile Connect on a phone is the simplest way to join Wi-Fi, and it also shows ink levels and handles scanning. On a Windows PC, install the Full Driver and Software Package from support.brother.com so feeder scanning works. Search Brother's support site by the model number, MFC-J1360DW, rather than the Work Smart name. Check the cartridge number on the starter cartridges before ordering replacements.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Brother's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
