Is the Brother MFC-J4555DW right for you?

The MFC-J4555DW, sold as the INKvestment 4555, is the fax-equipped business model in the inkjet lineup Brother USA introduced in September 2025. It likely replaces the MFC-J4535DW and keeps the features small offices care about: print, scan, copy and fax, a 20-sheet automatic document feeder, automatic two-sided printing, two paper trays holding 400 sheets in total and a 2.7-inch touchscreen. INKvestment models use high-yield cartridges rather than bottles, so their running costs sit between ordinary inkjets and tank printers. The cheaper INKvestment 4355 (MFC-J4355DW) has a single 150-sheet tray. In the UK and Europe, the MFC-J4550DW appears to be the equivalent model.

Setting up the Brother MFC-J4555DW

Install the cartridges and let the initial charge finish, then load paper in both trays; check the manual for the sizes each tray accepts. Join Wi-Fi from the touchscreen or with Brother Mobile Connect. On Windows, install the Full Driver and Software Package for feeder scanning and PC-Fax. For fax, connect the phone line, then set the station ID, date and receive mode in the fax settings menu. Check the cartridge numbers on the installed cartridges before ordering replacements.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Brother's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
