ControlCenter4 was the desktop hub for Brother all-in-ones for many years, grouping scanning, PC-Fax, device settings and supplies status into one window with a Home mode and an Advanced mode. Brother has retired it: new models ship the desktop version of iPrint and Scan instead, and ControlCenter is not supported on macOS 11 or later. It still appears inside the Full Driver and Software Package for older machines, which is the only way to get it, and it is worth knowing that no separate download exists.

Version and licence: Legacy. ControlCenter4 is not offered for newer models, where the desktop version of Brother iPrint and Scan replaces it, and it is not supported on macOS 11 or later. It has no standalone download and ships inside the Full Driver and Software Package for the models that still use it.

Download Brother ControlCenter4

What it does

  • Scan to file, image, email and OCR with saved settings
  • PC-Fax send and receive on models with a fax unit
  • Device settings access without using the printer panel
  • Supplies and status display on the desktop
  • Home and Advanced interface modes
  • Custom scan buttons for repeated jobs

How to install it

  1. Step 1

Check your model first. If Brother offers iPrint and Scan for the desktop, install that instead, because ControlCenter is legacy.

  2. Step 2

For an older model, open the Brother support product search for your country and enter the model number.

  3. Step 3

Choose your operating system and download the Full Driver and Software Package.

  4. Step 4

Extract the archive on Windows and run start.exe.

  5. Step 5

Complete a standard installation, leaving the ControlCenter component selected.

  6. Step 6

Restart the computer if asked, then open ControlCenter4 from the Start menu or system tray.

  7. Step 7

Select Home or Advanced mode, then set up your scan destinations under the Scan tab.

Which printers it supports

Older Brother all-in-one printers and fax machines on Windows. Newer models and macOS 11 and later are not supported.

When Brother ControlCenter4 will not work

There is no ControlCenter4 for my model

Newer Brother machines do not ship it. Install the desktop version of Brother iPrint and Scan, which covers the same scanning and status functions and is maintained.

It will not install on my Mac

ControlCenter is not supported on macOS 11 or later. Use Brother iPrint and Scan from the Mac App Store, or scan through Image Capture and Preview.

The scan button on the printer does not reach the computer

ControlCenter must be running and the computer must be registered as a scan destination. Allow the Brother applications through the firewall on all network profiles, and reselect the destination on the printer panel.

It opens but shows the device as not ready

Confirm the printer is online in Windows and that its IP address has not changed since installation. Update the port under Printer Properties, Ports, then restart the ControlCenter background process.

Both ControlCenter and iPrint and Scan are installed

Keep only one to avoid both trying to own the scan session. Uninstall ControlCenter and use iPrint and Scan, which is the supported route on current systems.
