Design and Print 2 is the phone app for Brother's P-touch CUBE label printers, which have no keyboard or screen of their own and are designed to be driven entirely from a phone over Bluetooth. It provides templates, fonts, frames and symbols, generates barcodes and QR codes, and prints directly to the CUBE. The app is large because it bundles a substantial font and artwork library. It covers the P-touch CUBE, CUBE Plus, CUBE XP and the PT-N25BT.

Version and licence: Free. iOS version 2.7.4, and a large download at about 312 MB because of the bundled fonts and template artwork. It is the version 2 app, so make sure you are not installing the original Design and Print by mistake. About 312 MB on iOS.

Download Brother P-touch Design and Print 2

What it does

  • Bluetooth connection to the P-touch CUBE range
  • Template library for home, office and organising labels
  • Font, frame and symbol library included in the download
  • Barcode and QR code creation
  • Serialised numbering for repeated labels
  • Photo and hand-drawn element support on supported models
  • Saves designs for reprinting later

How to install it

  1. Step 1

Load a tape cassette into the P-touch CUBE and switch it on so the Bluetooth indicator lights.

  2. Step 2

Install P-touch Design and Print 2 from the App Store or Google Play, checking that it is the version 2 app.

  3. Step 3

On the phone, enable Bluetooth and grant the app Bluetooth permission when asked.

  4. Step 4

Open the app and let it search for the printer, then select your CUBE model.

  5. Step 5

Complete the pairing prompt if the phone asks for it.

  6. Step 6

Confirm the tape width shown in the app matches the cassette you loaded.

  7. Step 7

Choose a template or start a blank label, design it, then print one as a test.

  8. Step 8

Use chain printing when printing several labels so tape is not wasted on leaders.

Which printers it supports

Brother P-touch CUBE, CUBE Plus, CUBE XP and the PT-N25BT.

When Brother P-touch Design and Print 2 will not work

The app cannot find the CUBE

Turn Bluetooth on and grant the app Bluetooth and, on Android, nearby-devices permission. Switch the printer off and on so it advertises again, and keep the phone within a metre or so during pairing.

Printing stops halfway or the tape jams

Open the cassette compartment and check the tape is seated with no slack, using the spool to take up any loose tape. Do not pull the tape out by hand; use the feed and cut function instead.

Each label wastes a lot of tape

These printers add a leading margin per print. Use the chain printing option so several labels print in one run with one leader, and reduce the margin setting where the model allows it.

I installed the wrong app

There are older Design and Print apps still around. Install P-touch Design and Print 2, which is the current one for the CUBE range, and remove the older version to avoid confusion.

Text prints smaller than expected

The app auto-fits text to the tape width, so a 12 mm tape gives less height than a 24 mm one. Load wider tape for large text, or reduce the number of lines in the label.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the app so large?

It bundles a substantial font, frame and template library so labels can be designed offline, which pushes the iOS download to around 312 MB.

Does it work over Wi-Fi?

No. The CUBE range connects over Bluetooth, so the phone pairs directly with the printer.

Can I use P-touch Editor instead?

The CUBE models are designed around the mobile app. Some also work over USB with the desktop editor, but the app is the intended route.
