Remote Printer Console is a small Windows program that gives you access to printer settings on Brother mono lasers that have no control panel screen. On those machines, things like emulation mode, font selection, page protection and error handling cannot be set from the printer itself, so this tool sets them from the computer instead. It is old software aimed at a specific group of budget lasers, and Brother only lists it on those models' own download pages under Utilities. If your printer has a screen and menus, you do not need it.

Version and licence: Legacy Windows utility for older Brother mono laser printers, principally the HL-2140, HL-2270DW, HL-L2300D and HL-1110 families. It has no standalone page and is listed under Utilities on the specific model's download page.

Download Brother Remote Printer Console

What it does

  • Change printer emulation and font settings on panel-less models
  • Set page protection, auto continue and error behaviour
  • Download fonts and macros into the printer
  • Read printer status and error information
  • Save and restore configuration sets
  • Works over USB and, on network models, over the network

How to install it

  1. Step 1

Confirm your model is one of the older mono lasers that lists this utility, such as an HL-2270DW or HL-L2300D.

  2. Step 2

Open the Brother support product search for your country and enter the model number.

  3. Step 3

Choose Windows and your version, then look under the Utilities section of the downloads list.

  4. Step 4

Download Remote Printer Console and run the installer as an administrator.

  5. Step 5

Connect the printer by USB, or confirm it is reachable on the network.

  6. Step 6

Open the console and select your printer from the list.

  7. Step 7

Change only the settings you need, then apply them and print a test page to confirm the printer still behaves as expected.

Which printers it supports

Older Brother mono laser printers without a display, including the HL-2140, HL-2270DW, HL-L2300D and HL-1110 families and their close relatives.

When Brother Remote Printer Console will not work

The utility is not on my model's download page

It is only published for the older panel-less mono lasers. If your printer has a menu screen, use that instead, or use the printer's web interface if it is a network model.

It does not run on Windows 11

It is old software and compatibility is not guaranteed. Try running it in compatibility mode for Windows 7, and run it as administrator. If it still fails, most of the same settings are reachable through the printer driver's advanced properties.

It cannot see the printer

Connect by USB directly rather than through a hub, and make sure the printer is installed and online in Windows first. On a network model, confirm the IP address and that no firewall is blocking the utility.

I changed a setting and now printing is wrong

Reset the printer to factory defaults from the utility or by the model's button sequence, then change one setting at a time. Emulation changes in particular can make the printer misinterpret jobs from the driver.

Is there a Mac version?

No. It is Windows only and has not been updated in years.
