Is the Canon imageCLASS LBP6030w right for you?

The LBP6030w is Canon's tiny entry-level mono laser, a fixture in student rooms and small shops since 2014 and still sold new; the USB-only LBP6030B is everywhere in the UK and India. It is quiet, reliable and cheap to buy, but the 700-page Cartridge 125 / 725 runs out quickly and the single 150-sheet tray is open to dust. There is no display, so status is read from two lamps, and Wi-Fi must be configured through the installer or WPS.

Setting up the Canon imageCLASS LBP6030w

Run the Canon installer on a USB-connected PC first and let it push your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi settings, or press WPS on the router and the printer's Wi-Fi button. On macOS use the UFR II driver from Canon, since AirPrint support depends on firmware. Fan the paper and load it squarely in the exposed tray to avoid skew jams.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Canon's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
