The MG3620 is one of Canon's longest-lived printers, still sold new in 2026 nearly a decade after launch, and its UK twin the MG3650S is equally ubiquitous. It combines a front paper cassette, automatic duplex and Wi-Fi in a cheap, quiet body, which is why it remains a default choice for students. The trade-off is the blink-code interface and PG-240 / CL-241 cartridges that are pricey per page, so XL cartridges are the smart buy.

Setting up the Canon PIXMA MG3620

The easiest route is Canon PRINT: hold the Wi-Fi button until the lamp blinks, then let the app push your 2.4 GHz credentials. Pull the front cassette out fully, load paper face down and slide it back until it clicks, and always extend the output tray. Because there is no screen, use the lamp-blink table in the manual or the app to read error codes.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Canon's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
