Is the Ricoh MP 2554 right for you?

The MP 2554 was one of Ricoh's most widely leased A3 mono copiers, and huge numbers are still in service as second-hand machines in schools and small firms. Parts and toner remain easy to source, but Ricoh has moved the model into legacy status, so new driver builds for future Windows releases are not guaranteed. Grey backgrounds and repeating marks on high-mileage units usually mean the photoconductor and development unit are due.

Setting up the Ricoh MP 2554

The safest driver today is the Ricoh PCL6 Universal Driver rather than the original model-specific package, which can fail Windows 11 driver-signing checks. Reach the Web Image Monitor at the machine IP for address book, SMTP and user code settings; older firmware may only offer HTTP, so administer it from a trusted network segment. If Windows reports the driver as unavailable after an update, remove the old print queue completely, delete the driver in Print Server Properties, then re-add using the universal driver.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Ricoh's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
