Ricoh SP 277NwX: Setup, Drivers, Ink and Common Problems

Is the Ricoh SP 277NwX right for you?

A compact four-in-one built around the same engine as the SP 210 range but with a 35-sheet ADF, fax modem and a four-line LCD. It was one of the cheapest ways to get network fax into a small shop, and plenty are still running in India and Eastern Europe. Owners should expect manual duplex only, and be aware that the ADF pickup rubber hardens after a few years and starts double-feeding invoices.

Setting up the Ricoh SP 277NwX

Run through the panel's Network Settings menu to join Wi-Fi, or press the WPS shortcut on the control panel and then the router button within two minutes. Scanning needs the TWAIN/WIA driver bundle installed on Windows before the machine will appear in scan software; on macOS use the Scan option in Printers and Scanners. Fax dial type and the outside-line prefix are set under Admin Tools on the panel, not in any PC utility.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Ricoh's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
