Professional Print and Layout is Canon's colour-managed printing application for its photographic printers. It gives fine control over paper profiles, rendering intent, black point compensation and soft proofing, and it lets you place an image precisely on the sheet with borders, gallery wraps and hard proofing marks. It runs on its own or as a plug-in launched from Photoshop, Lightroom Classic or Canon Digital Photo Professional, which keeps the colour handling in one place rather than splitting it between the application and the driver. It replaced the older Print Studio Pro.
Version and licence: Free with the hardware. It is bundled with PIXMA PRO and imagePROGRAF PRO models and downloaded from the model's support page. It is the successor to Print Studio Pro and works standalone or as a plug-in for Photoshop, Lightroom Classic and Digital Photo Professional.

How to install it
Step 1
Install your printer's driver first from the model's page on the Canon support site.
Step 2
On the same support page, download Professional Print and Layout for your operating system.
Step 3
Run the installer, and on macOS allow it in System Settings, Privacy and Security if it is blocked.
Step 4
Download the media configuration and ICC profiles for the papers you use, which are separate downloads on the same page.
Step 5
Open Photoshop or Lightroom, go to the file or plug-in menu and confirm Professional Print and Layout appears; if it does not, run the installer again with the host application closed.
Step 6
Open an image, launch the plug-in, then choose the printer, the paper type and the matching ICC profile.
Step 7
Turn colour management off in the host application so only the plug-in manages colour, then print a small test before committing to large paper.
Which printers it supports
Canon PIXMA PRO series photo printers and imagePROGRAF PRO large-format models. Ordinary PIXMA and MAXIFY printers are not supported.
When Canon Professional Print and Layout will not work
Close the host application completely and run the Professional Print and Layout installer again so it can register the plug-in. In Lightroom Classic it appears under File, Plug-in Extras rather than the normal print module.
Colour is probably being managed twice. Set the host application to let the printer software manage colour, choose the correct ICC profile for the exact paper in the printer, and use a relative colorimetric intent with black point compensation for most photographic work.
Media types come from a separate media configuration file. Download the current media configuration tool and profiles from the model's support page and install them, then restart the application.
Check roll media settings and the amount of free disk space, because these jobs spool very large files. Reduce the print resolution for proofs, and confirm the printer's firmware is current since large-format models get regular fixes.
Soft proofing needs a calibrated display and correct viewing light to be meaningful. Calibrate the monitor, view prints under a neutral light source, and remember that paper white and screen white will never match exactly.

Is this the same as Print Studio Pro?
It is the successor. Print Studio Pro is legacy and appears only on older model pages.
Do I have to use it as a plug-in?
No. It runs standalone and can open image files directly, which is useful if you do not own Photoshop or Lightroom.
Does it work with my PIXMA all-in-one?
No. It is limited to the PIXMA PRO and imagePROGRAF PRO photographic printers.
