Is the Canon PIXMA TS3420 right for you?

The TS3420 is the North American model that switched the budget TS3000 line to the newer PG-275 / CL-276 cartridges, so do not confuse it with the TS3320 when buying ink. Otherwise it is the same compact wireless all-in-one: slow but quiet, with a flatbed scanner and a basic segment display. Its biggest strength is price, and its biggest weakness is that the small standard cartridges empty quickly, so XL cartridges are worth the extra cost.

Setting up the Canon PIXMA TS3420

Press and hold the Wireless button until the lamp blinks, then finish the connection with the Canon PRINT app or the ij.start.canon installer; the printer will only join 2.4 GHz networks. On macOS you can add the printer via AirPrint, but install the Canon IJ Scan Utility if you want to scan to the Mac. Alignment runs automatically the first time cartridges are installed.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Canon's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
