Ricoh SP 3710DN
Small offices that print high mono volumes over Ethernet
Ricoh mono laser — shown for reference; your model may look different. Dinkun Chen · CC BY-SA 4.0
A workhorse 42 ppm departmental printer with a 500-sheet cassette, PostScript 3 and a 150,000-page monthly duty cycle, the SP 4510DN was one of Ricoh's best-selling wired lasers. Its 12,000-page toner keeps costs down in busy print rooms, and the metal-framed paper path handles heavier stocks than the SP 3710. Many are now well past their photoconductor life, so grey backgrounds or repeating marks usually point at the drum rather than the toner.

Best for: Busy departments printing tens of thousands of mono pages
Add the printer by IP address using the Ricoh PCL6 Universal Driver; the PostScript driver is a separate download and is worth installing if you print from Adobe applications. Web Image Monitor at the device IP handles tray paper sizes, email alerts and the user code authentication used in shared offices. If print jobs sit for a long time before the first page, turn off the Energy Saver deep sleep setting under Administrator Tools.
The Ricoh SP 4510DN uses the following consumables. Match the number exactly when you buy: the same printer family often uses several different cartridge numbers by region.
High-yield (XL) versions almost always cost less per page if you print regularly. On third-party ink and toner, read our honest assessment first, and note that some manufacturers push firmware that rejects non-original chips.
