TM Utility is the mobile configuration tool for Epson's TM range of thermal receipt printers, the machines behind most retail and restaurant tills. It pairs with the printer over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or Ethernet, configures network settings, prints test receipts, adjusts print density and paper settings and stores logos in the printer's memory. A companion app, TM Print Assistant, lets iOS applications print to these printers. The key administrative change to know is that Epson's old business download site, download.epson-biz.com, closed in June 2024, so drivers including the Windows Advanced Printer Driver 6 now come through epson.sn.

How to install it
Step 1
Load a roll of the correct paper width and switch the TM printer on.
Step 2
Install Epson TM Utility from the App Store or Google Play.
Step 3
For a Bluetooth model, put the printer into pairing mode following the model's card, then pair it in the phone's Bluetooth settings.
Step 4
For a network model, connect it by Ethernet or use the utility's Wi-Fi setup to join it to your network.
Step 5
Open TM Utility, allow the local network and Bluetooth permissions, and let it search for the printer.
Step 6
Select the printer and run a test print to confirm the connection.
Step 7
Set the print density, paper width and any logo you need, then save the settings to the printer.

Which printers it supports
Epson TM series thermal receipt printers, including the widely used TM-T20, TM-T82, TM-T88 and TM-m30 families, plus mobile TM-P models.
When Epson TM Utility will not work
That site closed in June 2024. Use epson.sn and enter your TM model to reach the current drivers, including the Windows Advanced Printer Driver 6.
Grant the app Bluetooth and local network permissions in the phone settings. For Bluetooth models, pair in the system settings first. For network models, print a status receipt by holding the feed button while powering on to see the current IP address.
Thermal print quality depends on the paper and the density setting. Increase print density in TM Utility, confirm you are using genuine thermal paper of the right grade, and clean the thermal head with a cleaning pen or an alcohol swab when cold.
Thermal paper only prints on one side. Reload the roll so the coated side faces the print head, which usually means the paper feeding from underneath the roll rather than over the top.
Increase the print density, use a wider module width in the point-of-sale software, and make sure the paper is not old or heat-damaged. Thermal receipts fade, so a scanner failing on an old receipt is normal.
