Is the HP OfficeJet Pro 8125e right for you?

The OfficeJet Pro 8125e is the main US model of HP's 2024 OfficeJet Pro 8100e family and one of the best-selling home-office inkjets at Amazon, Staples and Office Depot. It has an automatic document feeder and two-sided printing but no fax; the 8135e, which already has its own page here, adds fax. The same hardware family also covers the entry OfficeJet Pro 8120e and the Best Buy 8139e, which ships with a longer Instant Ink bundle, so the setup advice on this page applies to all three. It likely replaces the OfficeJet Pro 8025e. It is an HP+ printer, so plan on genuine HP 923 cartridges and keeping it online.

Setting up the HP OfficeJet Pro 8125e

Use HP Smart with an HP account and Bluetooth turned on; the printer usually pulls a firmware update before HP+ enrollment completes, so do not unplug it during that step. The 8100e series takes HP 923 cartridges, not the older HP 910 used by the 8025e. Load originals face-up in the feeder and set up Smart Tasks for scan-to-email if you scan often. 1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
