Is the HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e right for you?

The OfficeJet Pro 8135e is the 2023 replacement for the 8025e and the first in the family to use the HP 923 cartridge system, so the old 910 cartridges do not fit. The hardware outline is familiar, with fax, Ethernet, a 35-sheet ADF and the same 225-sheet tray, while the firmware and app integration are newer. It is an HP+ model, and because the 923 cartridges are still relatively new, third-party options are scarce, which reinforces the Original HP requirement.

Setting up the HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e

Set up in HP Smart with Bluetooth on and an HP account; the printer will pull a firmware update before HP+ enrolment completes. Use Ethernet or either Wi-Fi band. The touchscreen supports Smart Tasks shortcuts for scan-to-email and scan-to-cloud, which are worth configuring on day one if you scan regularly.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
