Is the OKI B412dn right for you?

A compact 33 ppm networked mono LED printer, the B412dn was one of OKI's most popular small-office machines and shares consumables with the B432dn. Its 1200 dpi LED head gives crisp text at small point sizes, and the 7,000-page toner keeps costs low. Third-party toner works on many units but firmware updates have blocked compatible chips in the past, so test before updating a machine that relies on them.

Setting up the OKI B412dn

Print a network configuration page from the panel menu, then add the printer by IP using OKI's PCL6 driver rather than a generic driver so duplex and the multipurpose tray are available. Wireless requires the optional module; without it the printer is Ethernet and USB only. If print quality drops with vertical white lines, clean the LED head with the supplied cleaner before replacing the drum.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use OKI's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
